The short answer from Syed Hadi Hussain
What is citation building?
A citation is a mention of your business name, address and phone number on another site, such as a directory. Citation building fixes wrong or duplicate listings and adds accurate ones, so search engines see the same details everywhere and trust them.
01What’s a citation?
Any mention of your business name, address and phone number online, usually in a directory. Google compares them to check you are who you say you are.
02How many do I need?
Quality over quantity. The important ones are the major data providers, the directories in your industry and the places customers actually look.
03Do citations still matter?
They’re a foundation, not a booster. Consistent, accurate listings remove doubt. They won’t win rankings alone, but wrong ones can quietly hold you back.
04What about duplicates and old listings?
I find and merge or remove them, because old details from a previous address or number confuse both Google and customers.
05Can I do this myself?
Yes, for a handful. For dozens of listings, a tracked, systematic clean-up saves a lot of time.
