Keyword & intent research

Find the searches worth winning.

Search volume is easy to find and easy to misread. I look for the searches that come from people ready to act, and that you can realistically win.

Opportunity map

Size isn’t everything.

The biggest bubble isn’t always the best bet. I plot each search by how valuable it is and how winnable it is.

  • Top right wins first.Valuable and winnable: the searches I build pages for early.
  • Top left needs authority.Valuable but hard. Planned for after the easier wins.
  • Bottom right is volume without value.Easy to rank for, rarely worth a page.

Beyond volume

What I weigh instead of volume alone.

  • 01

    Intent

Is the person learning, comparing or ready to act?

  • 02

    Winnability

Can a site like yours realistically reach page one?

  • 03

    Value

What would one visit from this search be worth to you?

Real data

Useful for spotting ideas

Volume and difficulty scores are modelled. They’re good for comparison and poor for precision.

Your own data

Better for deciding

Search Console shows what already brings you impressions, and sales data shows what actually earns.

Research questions

About keyword research.

The short answer from Syed Hadi Hussain

What is keyword research?

Keyword research finds the searches your customers actually make, what they want when they make them, and which ones you can realistically win. The output is a prioritised list of pages to create or improve.

01Why not just target the highest-volume keywords?

Because high volume often means high competition and vague intent. A smaller search from someone ready to buy can be worth far more than a big one from someone browsing.

02Which tools do you use?

Several, plus Search Console and your own sales data, because no single tool is right. Tool numbers are estimates, so I treat them as clues, not facts.

03How many keywords will I get?

A focused plan, not a spreadsheet of thousands. I group searches by the page that should answer them, so each has a job.

04Do you research competitors?

Yes. Seeing what already ranks shows what Google rewards, and where rivals fall short.

05How often should research be refreshed?

Whenever your business or market shifts, and at least yearly. Search behaviour changes, especially as AI answers grow.
